The Vampire

Sitting in the chair was an elderly man. He faced the doorway. Later, gathering his wits, Dalton would remember the man’s snow-white hair, swept back from his forehead and combed precisely. He would also remember the astonishing smoothness of the man’s ivory pale face.

At the moment, though, Dalton was taken in completely by the man’s eyes. Deep black pools they were, their color impossible to distinguish in the layers of darkness that separated the old gentleman from the detective.
